Informal introductions
Introducing yourself to a new friend, relative, neighbour, etc is informal introduction.
How To
- Informal introductions start with a casual greeting like "Hi" or "Hello".
- Next, say your name. Example : "I am Dave Smith" or "My name is Dave Smith"
- Say how you are connected to the other person. Example: "I am your brother's friend" or "I run the hotel down this street".
- Are you meeting this person for a specific reason like collecting donations, or giving an invitation? If yes, explain the reason. Example : "I am collecting donations for the community garden" or "I would like to invite you to the hotel's 5th anniversary party".
- End on a positive note, stating you are happy to meet him / her. Remainder to keep in contact can be added now. Example : "I am glad to meet you. Hope to see you and your family at the dinner party".
Tips
- Shake hands while saying your name. In a few countries, it is a practice to ask "How do you do?" while shaking hands.
- Small talks are used to continue the conversation. Small talk is casual statement on general topics like the weather ("It sure is a hot day") or personal compliments ("I love your handbag. Is it a Gucci?").
